Getting Rid of Unwanted Items

Lodi Garage Sale Stuff has 23,636 members. Need to sell anything?something? Post it here for local stuff. Buy and Sell Group. Usually, the goods that are sold in a garage sale are unwanted items from houses. The conditions of the goods vary, but they are usually usable. The owners usually offer these items up for sale because they do not want them, and need to declutter their houses.

Congratulations, your yard sale is over and you made a decent amount of money. The only question now is “What are you going to do with all of the items that went unsold?” You have three options, carry the items back into the house (no thank you!), junk the items or donate the items to a local charity. Out of all of those options, our favorite is to donate any leftover yard sale items to charity for reasons we will discuss below.

Benefits of Donating your Goods:

Besides the touchy-feely good feeling we get deep in our hearts when we donate to charity, there are also a few other perks worth noting when donating items:

  • Tax write-off
  • Reduce items being dumped into a landfill
  • Helping those in need
  • Keeps the clutter out of your house

Where to Donate Unsold Yard Sale Items

Below you will find seven non-profit & for-profit organizations that accept household donations. A few of these organizations even offer free donation pickups.

Goodwill Industries:

Goodwill Industries will accept donations of household goods, clothing and toys as long as they have not been recalled, banned & meet current safety standards. Goodwill accepts donations at any of their locations in-store or through community wide donation bins. Some locations even offer a local pick-up service. You can learn more about Goodwill’s donation policies here.

Salvation Army

Not only does the Salvation Army welcome your unsold yard sale goods, but they even allow you to schedule a pickup for those goods online. To make the most of this service, you can go ahead and schedule for the Salavation Army donation truck to make a stop at your house as soon as your yard sale ends. That way you can quickly fill the truck with the unsold items without having to lug them back into the house.

We Buy Garage Sale Items

The trickiest part of having a yard sale? Trying to figure out how to price everything. If you price things too high, they won’t sell. If you price things too low, you won’t make as much as you could have. It’s all about hitting that sweet spot in the middle, where you end the day with a pocketful of cash and a cleaned out house. But how do you know where that sweet spot lies? By hosting a ton of yard sales, or by referring to my new yard sale pricing guide.

Just think of it as your yard sale cheatsheet.

It has suggested prices for almost 100 items, along with advice on when you should charge more, and things you can do to maximize your profits.
